Fall 2024 The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil claim against Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited on September 18, 2024. These are the companies that owned and operated the container ship Dali (appearing in the photo at right), which allided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2026. The amount of damages claimed in the suit are $100 million. After leaving Baltimore and headed for Sri Lanka, the container ship suffered power outages, resulting in its impact with the bridge. This resulted in the destruction of several sections of the bridge, the tragic loss of life of six people, and the shutdown of the Port of Baltimore. The suit seeks to recover United States's costs in its response to the disaster, which included the removal sunken bridge sections from the bottom, and pollution abatement measures.
