Tim Akpinar
Tim has over 30 years of experience in litigation and arbitration. He represents motorists, pedestrians, hospital patients, commercial mariners from entry-level deckhands/tankermen to unlimited tonnage masters, commercial divers, and others injured in shoreside and marine settings. He handles general & maritime personal injury, med mal, hull & machinery, and complex cargo. This includes motor vehicles, commercial vessels, recreational vessels, hospitals, and premises liability.
Tim taught law in the Global Business & Transportation Dept at SUNY Maritime College and in the MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University. He worked for BAR-BRI, preparing law school graduates for the NYS Bar Exam. On a limited basis, he tutors students for the Bar Exam. He was asked to cover the subject of limitation of liability for the American Trial Lawyers Association.
Tim worked as an environmental engineer at an 826 MW generating station, where he trained NYC firefighters in first-responder plant hazards that included 138,000V transformers, superheated steam, and bulk chemicals. He worked as a shift supervisor at a 425 MW station, responsible for steam turbines, generators, boilers, and diesels. Tim covers maritime law topics for commercial maritime and boating publications, including WorkBoat, The Ensign (US Power Squadron), Offshore, Marine Officer, and LI Boating World.
